CPU upgrade request (TDP unlock) for Biostar G31-M4

Hello !

I have a problem with this motherboard -  Biostar G31-M4 (https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/int...p?S_ID=502)
I want to install a Pentium 4 3.4 GHz (Prescott core, 800 MHz FSB) on it, but that board has a TDP limit of 95W in BIOS and it does not allow to use higher TDP CPUs.
I have to constantly press F10 when computer boots. I think that the problem is in the CPU whitelist or some BIOS code that somehow detects the TDP.
Please help me to remove this limitation from BIOS.
The latest Biostar G31-M4 BIOS is attached.
Thank you in advance !

Lenovo A55 bios microcode help

Hello smart people, i have stinky Lenovo A55 898562G LGA 775 ddr2 which has E2140 1.6Ghz in it, but i have bunch of core2duos/quads laying around that i would like to put them in this crappy machine that i got for 10$, but the pc wont get past initial startup screen with thoce cpu's in it. I can F1 to settings and it sees it (E 5200), but has unknown microcode revision so it wont post to windows with it.

Did useless lenovo bios update, had to install XP to do it, no change, doesnt have microcodes i need.
On pc startup it says Phoenix so i tried updating microcode with cbrom195 using guides on delided website but it doesnt work, on commands it either hangs or says not found. Bios file for update has .USF extension, while backup file it creates has .BAK, i tried renaming them to .BIN and trying out any way i can but to no avail.

I did it once few years ago with MMTOOL on Acer machine, sucessfuly updated microcode for 771 xeons because i was having issues with it. But i cant open my bios files using that tool.

This lenovo thing has exausted me, i'm out of options as an amater, lost 2 days on it but nothing works, can somebody help, or just do it for me ? xd

I included zip files with bios.exe installation for OS update, and 2 bios files that came out from it, image20.usf is the one that is used to update with that lenovo tool, and other one is backup that it created.

EDIT: Uhh, idk if i posted this in correct subforum :/ Feel free to move it, i can't delete it

Hi, I have a Lenovo flex 2-15, with an i5-4210u, currently, the throttling temperature is set to 70, I heard that it can be changed using bios modding.
How can I do that?
the CPU can go up to 95, but now it won't go more than 70-72.
And also, if it's possible to overclock the CPU in bios, how can I unlock the overclocking feature?
Thanks

Hello

There is MSI H61M-P31 (G3).
The BIOS lacks an item for controlling the processor voltage. I really need it for undervolting.

Therefore, I ask you to add this item to this motherboard

This BIOS opens easily in AMIBCP

Hi, I come to you referred from @Lost_N_BIOS from the Win-Raid forum.

We (mostly him, I barely understand the stuff) are trying to unlock all of the settings the BIOS for the A515-54G has to offer, and if at all possible changing the boot Acer logo for a custom one.

I have access to a CH341A programmer and I successfully made a dump of the ROM content from its Winbond 25Q128JVSQ chip (both through flashrom and AsProgrammer), after inspection of the board no other BIOS ROM chip was found, but I'll attach pictures of it as well and more if necessary. We were also able to unlock flashing through FPT (after vars editing through H2OUVE 2), which is preferable to be honest but if using the programmer is the only way to go I have no problem with it.

I'll be attaching both clean dumps, the one from the programmer and the one from FPT to this post as well.

The only change we were able to make to the BIOS successfully is updating the microcode for the processor (attached info on which one it is), the other changes didn't stick.

For example, I made a boot logo and replaced all of the Acer ones with equivalent (same format, same size, etc.) images. No luck, I keep seeing the Acer one at boot instead of the one I chose. I also tried swapping the Acer ones with those for Gateway (the BIOS comes with boot images for Acer, Gateway and PackardBell) to be sure they're as perfect match as they can be -> No luck either.

My guess would be that the logo I'm seeing at boot is located somewhere in the BIOS in another form, because I used the Linux' "file" command to locate all images and replaced any that looked as a boot logo. But that's where I'm out of my depth (same as editing the assembly itself).

We've been using UEFITool 25 to replace the menu section (DriverSampleDXE/SetupUtility) after editing and as far as we can tell, that's the right file. For another test, I tried replacing it with the one from 1.11 before the SATA operation mode was hidden under Ctrl+S at Main tab and it showed up just fine.

Summing up:
- The currently available BIOS is 1.18, no ME firmware is present in the BIOS nor was it ever upgraded manually.
- The appropriate BIOS from the 1.18 package is ZAW2, but having dumps from FPT or direct from the ROM it may not be needed after all.
- The only modification that was successful seems to be microcode updating, menu unlocking (the main objective) or boot logo replacement are not.
- The dumps attached are from 1.18 clean, without any modification whatsoever. Secure Boot, TPM, any kind of password, were disabled in BIOS. The only change is that the dumps were created after applied modified vars with H2OUVE to allow FPT flashing to be permanent.

Could anyone look at it and do the modding required please? We'd appreciate any pointers on what could have been missing, but if a successful mod is done we could possibly find out later on.

Thank you in any case for all your time and effort, trully,
Kao.

Biostar NF520-A2 TE incorrect TDP check

I have a motherboard Biostar NF520-A2 TE and CPU AMD Phenom II X4 x945 HDX945WFK4DGI which is in support list of this MB
But when I turn my computer on there is a message "The max power of CPU over 95W. Prepare to shut down". After a couple seconds computer will turn off. The only way to start windows is press F10 when this message appears. After this the system will boot and everything will work just fine without any issues. CPU-Z shows TDP of this processor 94W. Can anyone help me with this issue. Is there a way to avoid pressing F10 every time. There is only one version of BIOS for this MB maybe there is a way to disable this check.

Create a new BIOS Mod - HP DV7 (DISCRETE > UMA)

Hello to all,

I have moded the board with the usual stuff of removing some coils etc. for the GPU not to take any power.

So now i have the laptop up and running from Discrete to UMA (Internal Graphics ) and not from GPU.

But the problem now, is that the laptop needs , BIOS CMOS each time, because it tries to boot from the GPU . Can we somehow remove the GPU from the BIOS ?
(It cannot be disabled from BIOS with option)

I need to do a manual mod in the GPU section of the BIOS File and re-flash it

Can someone help me out ?

Thanks!

[PSA] You don't need to mod your BIOS to use a new wifi card that isn't whitelisted

If you're getting this error "Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card" or something like it when trying to install a new wifi card, and you don't frequently power off or reboot your laptop, you can completely bypass the BIOS whitelist check by changing your wifi card while your laptop is on.

How to:
Make sure that airplane mode is on and then unplug and switch the wifi cards while your laptop is running.

The new card likely won't work out of the box, so use either ethernet or a phone to download the appropriate drivers for the card and install them on the laptop.

Keep in mind that if you reboot your laptop, it will still show the error, prevent you from booting, and make you remove the wifi card. You can always just put it back as soon as it boots though.

I decided to post this because I spent a long time searching for how to fix the BIOS whitelist and didn't come across anything that told me I could do this. I tested this on my Lenovo U430p, with an ax wifi card, but it should work for any laptop.

[REQUEST] WiFi Whitelist Removal Dell E7250 to recognize eGPU

Hello,

I would like to request the removal of the Whitelist for the M.2 WiFi slot for a Dell Latitude E7250.

https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER06207027M/1/E7250A24.exe

The laptop doesn't currently have the WiFi card that it came with.  I bought it used.

I'm basically trying to add a eGPU using the M.2 WiFi port.  I've been able to get the OS to see the eGPU by booting the laptop with the WiFi card installed, putting the laptop to sleep and then hot swapping the beast cable in the M.2 WiFi port and then waking up the laptop...but that's not ideal.

I'm trying to modify the BIOS myself using the resources on this forum, but it might take me a while to figure it all out.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
