Need help adding updated SATA BIOS to a A7N8X-E Motherboard BIOS.

Hi all,

I know, its an old motherboard but it works perfectly for what I want, but its on board SATA Controller has an outdated BIOS on board. I am hoping that updating the BIOS will allow the controller to accept bigger capacity hard drives and smooth out some of the problems.

Problem is, the chip developer created a BIOS update, which I have, but the motherboard manufacture ASUS no longer supports the board and not doing any updates.

So I thought I would create this bios update myself. I've downloaded the Latest BIOS from ASUS, and have the new BIOS for the SATA controller.

I searched the internet for an editor that can edit the BIN file that can be flashed to ROM in DOS, but the programs I have used seem to corrupt or damage the Bin file. I want to replace the 4247.BIN file from the PCI driver[A] and replace it with the new 4280.bin I downloaded.

Sounds simple. I know, but the first program I used, Award BIOS editor, seemed to edit and change the file just fine. But when I reopen the modified file is says the program cannot read the file and it looks corrupted. I even downloaded the updated version of the editor. But it still refused to make the file. Other small editors did nothing and now I am asking if someone can update this BIOS for me correctly so I can flash my motherboard and get the SATA ports updated.

I have included the original updated BIOS from ASUS website (C18E1013.BIN) and the New BIOS (4283.bin) for the SATA controller. Hope someone can help. The BIOS file in question is located in PCI driver[A] slot.

Which BIOS should I try?

Hi all, new member 'ere

I'm looking through a pretty long thread here which has a few different BIOSes to try. I'm currently experiencing what a lot of other people seem to be, where it doesn't boot with lots of RAM. But often for me it just hangs even with 1x 512MB. I'm sorta having an extreme case. Anyway, i have Acer Aspire M1100 running BIOS R01-A1, 6.00 PG. The first post in this thread is a modded R01-A3. I believe R0x is the MoBo version and Ax is the BIOS version. Does this mean it should be fine? Or should I try the R01-A1 linked in the second page of the thread?
Secondly, what is the procedure for flashing an Acer BIOS? Yesterday I flashed a different one with a non modded BIOS, it was an Award just like this. I simply used Rufus to make the usb FreeDOS bootable, then typed AWDFLASH or whatever the exe is called, then the name of the BIOS and it's extension. Is it the same for these. I see lots of people putting /letters after it on the linked thread.
Cheers
Conan

Hi!
I have an old Aspire M1100 with BIOS R01-A1. Although there are loads of BIOSes out there, Acer made a right mess of this family. I am reluctant to try one since the BIOS name and MoBo name for all of the Aspire M family is pretty much the same (incl the differences in AMD in Intel!) so I would like it if someone can do my BIOS for me. What format must the BIOS be, or is something like .orig ok?
Thanks

Acer Aspire M1100-B1300A [Shutdown during BIOS Flash]

Hey guys, I'm Menace and this is an odd introduction, but let me just say that I'm an impatient fool that rushed into things thinking I'd wing it and jumped the gun under the guise of a bunch of assumptions to justify shutting it down during the flash.

The attachment below is what I was using, and the flash was interrupted because I flipped the switch on the PSU; now, before you call me out on my stupidity, let me just tell you that it appeared to not be having any success at writing to the BIOS because each block it supposedly tried to write to failed, so I assumed the data would have been preserved as is, but when I booted the rig back up, it would be one, then another beep that was like two rapid beeps with a strangler of a beep, and the moments later it'd beep like it was a computer developed epilepsy (Some kind of loop?).

It appears to display different behavior with a USB stick with binary files on it, but keep in mind, I haven't tested it that would still be the case with a USB stick with nothing on it; my theory is that it's seeking a binary, rom, or another file that would be suitable for writing to the BIOS.

Nothing displays on the screen, and there doesn't even seem to be an attempt for it to display video.

I need to get this working, and I'm well aware that I'd need a floppy drive (can't get one atm, or a floppy disk for that matter), and I already have prepped the files and got my good ol' trusty Rufus that I use for other things to set up FreeDOS before I copy the files from the second attachment (The third attachment is from Acer's FTP server for this desktop model.)

I'm hoping that there's a method to recover the BIOS from some type of onboard backup (BIOS back chip?), or through some recovery method via USB or using an optical drive (not floppy, please not floppy.)

My other option is to purchase a new chip that's programmed already (BIOS Chip), but I'm broke af and my health is questionable in the least and I was going to get this running as a rig to play some low end games on with a GTX 285, and for my grandmother to use to pass some time and just have a hobby in general.

The other option is find someone local that'll let me use a rig to hot flash the BIOS, which is doubtful and unlikely to happen, so that's already ruled out.

The last option on my mind unless I remember something else (I'll edit it in for [censored] and giggles) is buy a programmer and reprogram it myself, but that'd be more expensive than the chip.

There aren't any local computer repair places that are local and within reasonable range for me to get to as I don't even have transportation because my life is in shambles, so that ain't an option either.

I'm trying to do some basic easy af tech repair work and phone repair + rooting services to make some money, but I've had no luck in making a profit, so I can't even come up with the money to do anything, and I can't work because of my mental health will cause me to hallucinate under an environment where I'm stuck being around people and it freaks me out so bad that my anxiety disorder manifests in that manner (it's a real thing, unfortunately, and that combined with Major Depression and PTSD is [censored], because I'll hear people talking about Ship that they have no way of know and it'll seem as real as me typing this out.)

Anyways, yes, I'm an idiot, and I need your guys help to get this working, because I'm pretty sure it can be repaired; I apologize for the TMI about me, but I'm an open-book in general.

Sincerely/Apologetically, MenaceSx7 Heart Heart Heart

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Deskt...1-0308.zip

I've got a Asus Essentio CM5671 motherboard.
Motherboard silkscreen says P5QL-M EPU/CM5671/DP_MB.

I've modded the ROM to support the E5450 and it's working fine except there's no option to turn on AHCI where you would expect it.

CPU-Z claims it has an 82801JR (ICH10R) rev. 00

Bonus points if you can turn on RAID and (if possible) 1600MHz FSB (for a E5472) but I'd be perfectly happy with AHCI + CPU support.

Thanks.

[need flashing help] HP SFF 8300 troubleshooting bios flashing

Hello, I think this is my first post, so here it goes :
I have modified my sff 8300 bios (from the stock, oldest version, v2.05) to include the chipset and 2nd advanced settings page. the problem at the moment is that i cannot flash it, it shows errors as :
DOSFLASH shows error -> System ROM image is invalid. (tried modifying a 2.51 to include the chipset and 2nd advanced menu method)
AFUDOS shows error -> BIOS has no flash information avaliable (/pbnc /n method)
Another error - > 46 - Error : Problem getting flash information. (/GAN method)
Another error -> BIOS does not support AFU (/P /B /N /C  /E /K /REBOOT method)
flashing it via just regular bios, shows the error
File is missing or damaged. (it is listed properly)
Any suggestions on this problem or is it write protected? (maybe getting a manual flash, like with a chip programmer?)
I can include the bios versions if needed. (on next post)

Asus P6T modding

I’m trying to get access functionality for an Intel Xeon W3690 on an LGA 1366 Asus P6T motherboard.

According to various forums the W3690 is supposed to be a server version of the Intel i7 990X (extreme) so theoretically it should work. However it doesn’t. After reading a bit more there is
only one version of a Xeon that works on the P6T. I consulted Asus about it and the agent I spoke to
stated that the W3690 would not work and was adamant that it is not the same as the I7 990X. In anycase my bios version was quite old (2009) so I updated it with additional support for the 990x cpu to the still old 2010 version. I’ll give the w3690 a whirl tomorrow to see if it works. Moving on, if that doesn’t work then I read in another forum that it might be possible to modify the bios to accept the cpu so I have come here to request clear and concise advise on how I would allow my Asus P6T to accept Xeon W3690 functionality.

Many thanks.

Read T430s BIOS chip

I am in the process of changing the bios on a T430s but seem to be stuck. My end goal is to have the bios modified so I get rid of whitelist for wan. I'd like to replace the current bios chip with a W25Q128FVSSIG (SOIC8) but in order to do that I need a backup

The bios chip is a Macronix MX25L12835EZNI-10G (WSON8). Using FPT from DOS it came up as a Macornix MX25L12805D, which doesn't really make sense since that is a SOP16 package.

The chip has been removed as I could not make a SOIC8 clip fit on the chip. With it removed, I am also not bothered by voltage sag so that should be good.

I am however facing a problem when trying to read it using a CH341 USB unit (black edition) to make a backup for modifying. I have tried ASProgrammer and CH341 programmer.

I put the chip in the test clip with pin 1 at the red wire. When I hook it up to the CH341 unit, the USB "unplugs" itself and the software loses connection. Also, the ON light goes dimmer. When I unhook the test clip, the CH341 comes to life again and software can see the unit again. I also have the green PCB but getting the little 6x8 WSON package aligned is really tricky so I opted for the clip.

If I orient the chip in other ways, it is not identified.

I have checked that both ASProgrammer and CH341 Programmer both should "know" the chip as it can be manually selected.

So I am quite lost right now about what to do. Have considered the following:

1. chip was damaged during removal (although done by a professional with the right kit - not me :-) )
2. my ch341 unit is faulty
3. the testclip or pogo boards are faulty
4. the wiring using clip is wrong and the green PCB should be used as the pin routes on WSON8 are not the same as for a SOIC8. However, looking at coreboot t430s wiki, this did not seem to be the case (Preparation section, https://www.coreboot.org/Board:lenovo/t430s). (I will receive a better test clip (Pomona 5250) which allows me to customize the pin routing between clip and CH341 unit if 4. is the culprit.)
5. bite the bullet and have the bios chip soldered onto the green PCB that came with the CH341 unit.

Really hoping for some help here - so many thanks in advance!
