BOUNTY: Intel Compute Stick BIOS mod needed

Hello,

I was looking for the proper forum to post this.

I have a request to either unlock or add the ability to boot to Legacy Mode on my STCK1A8LFC which natively supports only UEFI and Ubuntu OS (no Microsoft OSes apparently).

I wiped the internal eMMC so that I have 7.2GB available.

I can install another version of Linux if I want to but I seriously want to use this for DOS without going through the VM route.

If I can boot a FAT32-formatted USB stick with just DOS boot files on it, then I should be able to install DOS on it also which is what I want to do.

I'm willing to pay someone $200 to hack this for me. It's worth it as I'm going to have a 12 of these for a hobby/project I'm doing.

I can dump the BIOS on my compute stick and email to someone to do the unlock or do a module add so I can use Legacy Boot.

If you're in the U.S. I can just ship you one of these to hack and test with so you know for sure it works, then you can send back with the *.BIO file which I can use to do an F7 method BIOS update on the others.  I would want to donate the hacked BIOS to the community.

Thank you kindly!

Steve

OEM MSI X58 Platinum Xeon Problem after Flash

Hello,

I have successfully flashed an Medion OEM MSI X58 Platinum Board to the officially latest MSI Bios so that it support Xeons and the full MSI Bios with OC options is possible to use.

Bios I have on the Board is now this one:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X58_Platinum

Medion is an german electronic company and sold this OEM MSI X58 Platinum Boards in an PC over discounter Aldi, the OEM Boards are missing 1,2 I/O ports and had other Bios with limited options without OC and without Xeon x... Support. Otherwise the look and have the exact the same as the MSI X58 Platinum.

After sucessfull flash of the Bios I have now an x5670 running on the Board fine, but I can't adjust the CPU Voltage somehow.

The Voltage under Windows shown with CPU-Z is 1.04 - 1.10 Vcore and any adjustments I do at Bios will be ignored. Voltage seems to be correct, when I use prime with 100% load all 12 cores 20 minutes I only have 40 degrees celsius with my Dark Rock 3 Be quiet cooler, that is very, very low temperature for x58 Xeon with much room for OC.

But as said I can't OC because I can't adjust Vcore, I can set higher in Bios and save but under Windows nothing happens with Vcore and even the slightest OC is crashing PC and I have to do a Cmos clear. All other Bios options work fine, I can adjust fans, boot order, whatever, I also can adjust FSB or Ram Speed. Other Power Supply I tried, both have 700 Watt, really enough...

Someone in german forum said maybe medion/the oem producer of this Board have maybe ssembled an other CPU Voltage Chip on Board as MSI, so that the MSI Bios is adressing the false Chip for CPU voltage and so nothing is happening?

Could this be? And could this be changed in Bios so that I can OC/increase CPU Voltage?

I can support as good as I can when I get instructed - I'm not a noob and used to PC handling, at least I flashed it succesfully Smile

I really would appreciate support/Input, I want to OC, I have all, x58 board with xeon X,  big cooler, big power supply and now only 1,1 Vcore, really that can't be...Smile

Thanks!

Hello!

This should be an easy one as it is a quite old socket LGA 775 motherboard. I want to try whether a LGA 771 Xeon would work in this motherboard, so that's why I request the unlock of the BIOS - as well as seeing if the motherboard has overclocking features hidden. If it was possible, it would be helpful if the microcode for all LGA 771 and LGA 775 cpu was included. As I know how to do it myself, it is okay if it is not.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Greetings,
Ángel

P.S.: Here is the official bios from ASRock - the one attached is also the same.

Hi guys, especially WiDef and camilomil. I've recently acquired a HP Pavilion dv6-6c05ea laptop with Insyde bios and I was wondering if someone has some spare time to unlock the bios's hidden settings, especially the AMD Turbo Core Technology and UEFI boot, WiFi whitelist would be nice but is not a concern.
The bios file is here: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp60501-6...p60717.exe (can be extracted directly with WinRAR)

Looking forward to hear more about the progress.  Big Grin

Please let me know if you need anything else. I'll scrape up any more info I can find.

There is a $200 bounty for this. It's important to me this resource-starved stick supports DOS and older Windows boot ability because I want to use it that way...as is, it only supports Linux. I plan to buy 10 more of these and at least a couple I'll use with older DOS/Windows games and applications. I'm extremely stubborn and don't give up easily, but my full intent is to make it completely worth your time. I'll need to set up the bounty with a 3rd party if that's possible because it's a good chunk of money and I don't want someone taking it and leaving me with nothing.

I think the CSM may already be in there but simply locked down and/or hidden based on what I saw in UEFITool (which I find difficult to use since I'm not knowledgeable enough).

If the CSM module is not in there, then I guess I have to find ROM module and a menu entry in the BIOS has to be adjusted to show it.

I have no idea if there are different CSM modules...I would think there's just one that's generic created by AMI for Intel (and everyone else as they were apparently the original creator).

Thanks everyone!!!

[HELP]Recovery flashing Insyde BIOS on a Sony Vaio VPCEH25EN

Hi community members & modders,

before I flash a modded bios, I wanted to be sure that I can do a BIOS recovery but as it turns out I can't [Image: sad.gif] .
I followed the recovery guide here.
  • Extracted the BIOS .ROM file from bios update for my model from sony's website.
  • Renamed it to HK1X64.fd ( phoenix tool said "Recovery filenames are: HK1X64.f?", so i gues I renamed it right?).
  • Formatted my USB FAT32 and copied the HK1X64.fd in root directory.(there's no other files in USB)
  • Turned off my Laptop, disconnected power cable and removed the battery.
  • Inserted the USB.
  • Pressed Win+B.
  • Connected power adapter.
  • Pressed power button.
  • After the LED turned on I released the keys.

My laptop just booted to OS.
tried different key combinations like fn+B, fn+esc unfortunately nothing worked.

It seems to me that my laptop isn't entering the recovery mode it doesn't even look for the system files on USB, although the light on USB blinks a few times.

System Manufacturer: Sony Corporation
             System Model: VPCEH25EN
BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 03.60.51R0200Z9 (type: BIOS)
                Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.2GHz

Any help will be highly appreciated.

THANK YOU.

Possible to swap audio firmware? HDA Realtek

Hi all,

I have an interesting problem.  I am working on an arcade machine with a bad motherboard.  The software is proprietary.  I was able to find a motherboard with the same chipset as the arcade motherboard that runs the software just fine.

However, I am trying to get a different board - again same chipset - to work, and the game is crashing with a generic error about audio.  Both boards use the Realtek audio codec (ALC892) and have identical specs.

So, I figured it must be something in the BIOS.  I removed the non-working board BIOS chip (call this board #1) and put it in the working board (board #2).  Board #2 which formerly worked now crashes with the same error.  Board #1 will not boot with the board #2's BIOS.

Then I set out downloading BIOS from other manufacturers' boards with the same chipset and hoping for the best.  After several hours, I found a BIOS that will boot on board #1 into the game!  The only issue is, the on-board USB SD-card reader is not working.

I would have to assume there is something different between the 2 BIOS that is causing the game to crash.  My question is - is there a way to copy only over the audio firmware/ROM from the working BIOS and add it to the non-working BIOS?

I have attached both BIOS ROMs.  The AD04 is the original BIOS which causes the game to crash.  The EM50 BIOS is the BIOS that allows the game to boot but without SD CARD reader support.  Is it possible to copy the audio firmware from EM50 to AD04?
