[HELP] 2.5MB rom to 4MB bios - unsure how to proceed

I recently encountered a BIOS issue with my Acer M3970 (motherboard IPISB-VR). It started acting strangely, like enabling the RAID controller without my input, even after clearing the CMOS. Eventually, it failed completely, leaving me with a black screen.

My plan now is to flash a clean BIOS using the SPI header on the motherboard. After identifying the correct pinout and connecting it to my Raspberry Pi, I used flashrom to detect and dump the current BIOS image.

The problem I'm facing is that the only available BIOS I could find is from WayBack, as Acer removed it from their site. It's a slightly updated version, which should be fine, but it's only 2.5MB while my original BIOS image was 4.0MB. I'm unsure if the file is compressed or if I need to merge it with another image, which might not be feasible since my current BIOS image is likely corrupt.

I'm also open to using the previous BIOS version (P03-A1) since it supports Ivy Bridge and USB 3.0, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate it.

I'm currently at a standstill and would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance from those with expertise in this area.

Good day, everybody!

My name is Evgeniy. I live in the Netherlands.

Here I would like to log my progress of modifying and unlocking my P53.

I bought the P53 as a replacement for my slowly dying W520, and it needs to at least be able to do the same stuff.

It is a P53 20QN-000SGE.

I already upgraded it with 128 GB RAM, 2x 2TB NVMe and the US/RU - keyboard, since it was shipped with a QWERTZ. I type NL/DE/EN/RUS on daily basis, so that keyboard was a must have.
(P/N 01YP702 or 01YP622, seems to be the same part. Of course with backlight [Image: icon_smile.gif] )

For my work / hobby, I need the laptop to have WWAN. I arranged that with the W520 previously, and it works like a charm.

I remember, I bought a "fully open" bios 1.46 from a guy for a small price. 

For the P53, I could obtain the 5G Lenovo card for a fair price. 4XC1D11452 . I also ordered the antenna set and the SIM-tray from eBay.

(P/N 02DM541 , 02DM493)

... And now, I think, I need to modify the BIOS...

What I would like:

- disable whitelist for hardware, or at least just enable that 4XC1D11452 card.
- enable Advanced Menu, just in case, you never know.
- I am not sure about Intel ME. I read a lot of interesting stuff about it, but also that it improves performance, which will worsen when it is disabled.


Any help would be greatly appreciated, since the dying-rate of the W520 seems to increase, and I need to work..

On one hand, I would like to at least understand how it has to be done. On the other hand, I need a working laptop..

Can someone mod that bios to support v2.1 pci-express gpus? actually the original bios does not recognize the gpu itself, but with a bios modification it would work normally.

Packard Bell TR85

Hello,

A friend of me uses a old Packard bell for a Hobby thing.

He have a Packard Bell TR85 (SJM50MV).
Phoenix SecureCore Setup Utility (is showed in BIOS).

BIOS version V1.18 (i remember that i updated that ever, but it was a very long time a go...)
Since that upgrade was also the UUID removed from the BIOS (serial number of device?).



But now is the problem he is reaching the limits of MBR, he wants to change the disk to GPT, but for GPT i tought we need a UEFI BIOS.

But at this moment the BIOS can't boot any GPT disk.


What we can do?

Sorry for the questions but i am not so home at this BIOS things...
It is for me a very long time a go that i did things like this...

I read on some fora that there sometimes is a hidden menu to activate the UEFI option?

EDIT: Is this the right channel? I think i missed me, I posted in Phoenix UEFI but i didn't have the UEFI option at this moment in this BIOS.

Hello, I would like to unlock this bios of the UMPC Samsung Q1 Ultra. The bios file is a backup created by the official Samsung firmware update tool (a modified version of winphash) I couldn't dump it as specified in the forum rules because the media fire link is blocked ("for security reasons" - ?)

Hello, I have a terminal with an old bios in which it is impossible to enable amd virtualization and uefi mode. Is there a chance to unlock the bios in H2OEZE I see these options, but when I set them and save the bios, the terminal on the modified bios does not boot.

Please help me to unlock advanced bios options.

How to Modify Aptio BIOS Design and Enable Mouse Functionality?

Hello,

I am a user of a mini PC, and I find the BIOS design very outdated (legacy). I would like to change it to something modern and sleek like Gigabyte’s BIOS. I am aware that it is possible to change the design of Aptio BIOS. Could you please advise me on what tools I should use and the steps I need to take?

Additionally, I would like to enable mouse functionality in the BIOS, similar to what other BIOS manufacturers offer. Can this be done by simply adding code?

Lastly, my mini PC is recognized as a laptop by the Microsoft Devices site. I believe there might be a setting in the BIOS causing this. How can I change it to be recognized as a desktop?
