Pentium E5800 on MS-7255

$

Hi,

I assume I must post my request here. I've recently bought an old Pentium E5800 socket 755 for my MSI P4M890M mobo.
The CPU is recognised in the AMI Bios, but is downclocked at 1.2GHz (multiplicator stuck at 6 instead of 16, FSB at 200MHz).
I've tried with different OSes (W10 and some Linux distros), so I'm certain that this is a BIOS limitation because the CPU isn't officially supported.

The BIOS can be found here : https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/...#down-bios

I hope this isn't the wrong section and that you can help me...

Thanks (I've attached my report)

What's wrong with my Tecra S11?

I purchased a written off Tecra S11 from my employer. I booted from USB, installed openSUSE on it and went on my merry way.
The laptop ended up on my attic and I didn't touch it for at least 2 years. Now I'm looking to use it as a project laptop.
And here the fun starts Angry

  1. I can't boot from USB anymore.
  2. After the magic [INS] keyboard press, I get the "Supervisor password"  message. Wtf?
  3. Eventually I cave in and use the "services" from an internet "entrepreneur" to work with me through the challenge/response sequence.
  4. The response code is accepted.
  5. Now I should get 3 options [F1] [F2] [F3] where [F2] is platform setup.
  6. I hit [F2] and the laptop simply reboots. No BIOS, no nothing.
  7. I suspect the BIOS has gotten corrupted and I order a new BIOS. I solder the BIOS onto the motherboard and retry everything.
  8. Same as before, I hit [INS] again I'm presented with the supervisor password. Wtf?
Right now I'm totally flabbergasted as to what is going. Any help?

Edit: [*]Now I should get 3 options [F1] [F2] [F3] where [F2] is platform setup
I only get [F2] Platform Setup. [F1] and [F2] are not displayed.

Yep, i know the dangers of faulty hdd Smile

Packard Bell Aloh@

Hi,
I'm searching for a method to change my bios splash screen. My PC is a Packard Bell Aloh@/Aloha, and support has been dropped since 2010 (Original BIOS file are missing in the web).

I managed to recover a BIOS for a similar NEC-branded product on NEC's dead ftp, but the splash screen will not be the same anymore if I flash this BIOS.

Is there a way to dump my old BIOS (AMI, the computer is on Windows Me) in order to swap the splash screen ?

Thanks in advance, I attach the NEC-branded BIOS file.

Hi guys,
Not sure if this is the right spot but I was wondering if it would be possible to modify the BIOS of the SR-X to unlock the full all-core turbo bins of the CPU's? The processors are 2687Wv2's.
I've tried throttlestop but it's locked out. BCLK OC is out of the question as it breaks the USB/SATA.

Enclosed is the latest BIOS version for this board.

BIOS and booting

Hi!

So I was looking deeper into how an OS works. I was primarly looking into linux. While reading about the bootup process on Wikipedia I learned that there are several ways for a computer to boot. One of them is BIOS firmware. However, I am having trouble understanding everything. So this will be my own thread for asking some questions.

First question. Where is the best place to read and best understand the workings of BIOS for booting up the machine?

Second q. Under "Startup on systems using BIOS firmware"  on the GRUB 2 wiki page it says that boot.img is first loaded into first sector(sector 0) of MBR. Where is boot.img stored before this? Is it in ROM(cmos) from the motherboard?

How to downgrade the bios on laptop? Possible to recovery via crisis usb flash drive?
Toshiba Portege z30-a (PT241U-0ER012) link to the official website https://support.dynabook.com/support/mod...Id=3333785
platform id: FAUXSY4 A3805A

Before to the update bios, version was:
BIOS 4.0
EС 1.0
After the update:
BIOS 4.3
EС 1.6
After updating the BIOS, the laptop is turn on for a very long time...
EC is BGA IT6511FN. I have only TL866II plus.

AIDA64:
Type BIOS: Toshiba UEFI
Company name: Toshiba America information systems, Inc.
BIOS is AMI?

I downloaded the BIOS file version 4.0 from the official website Toshiba and decrypted it.
And got a file size of about 3.67MB, ie it's just the BIOS region. Without ME region. Attach file out4.0.zip.
I opened this file with PhoenixTool 2.73. He smashed it into modules.
I am interested in the contents of the module 3D17205B-4C49-47E2-8157-864CD3D80DBD_1777.ROM.
Opened in the hex editor, at the bottom there is interesting information:

fvmain.fv
EL TORITO SPECIFICATION CD001

and this decryption bios file has lines about the EC file. looks like this(UTF-16):
ECB7????.BIN

in the bios file that i am downloaded from the website Toshiba, there is an t241v400.iso image.
This *.iso image has a file TOSHBIOS.IMG.
I am boot this *.img file from a flash drive via grud4dos, but got an error:

the bios and/or ec/kbc is not compatible

how to solve the problem with a long turn on the laptop?

[REQUEST] Logo insertion to Award V6.0 bios

I am looking for a Logo insertion/replacement on an award 6.0 bios. The bios is on an older system and if there is no one here that can do this then please point me to where I can find the proper instructions to do this. I have the required software tools (CBROM 2.07, 2.15, 6.06) I have yet to find proper instructions for how to do this. It's all fine and dandy till I get to the part where I insert the new logo into the bios file and it does not work properly. Also, what program do I use to make sure that my logo.bmp is not compressed using RLE as indicated by every documented bios-mod directions that I have found to date?

If someone is willing to do this I would gladly pay them accordingly for the task. If there are no takers for the task then a proper guide would be appreceated. Thanks!

Mod new UEFI bios to work in HP laptop

Hi,

I recently accidentally shutdown my laptop while the bios was still flashing. I have been following this tutorial: rototron.info/uefi-bios-repair-tutorial and have so far been able to get flashrom on my raspberry pi to detect my bios chip and save the current bios to a .bin file. I am currently stuck at the point in the tutorial where I have to modify the new bios, which I got from the hp website, to be able to use it on my laptop.
The problem is, I can't find a tool equivalent to the one the guy used in the tutorial for modifying the new bios for an hp computer (the one he used is only for asus motherboards).

My question is could anyone help me with modifying my new bios with the correct mac address and other pieces of data retrieved from the old bios?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S Apologizes if this is the wrong forum to be posting my question on, but I am a total noob when it comes to bios modding and flashing, so didn't know which other forum is applicable to my case.

[REQUEST] Thinkpad T450 BIOS TPM Menu Unlock

Hello
I have a T450, but unfortunately, this one is a China special version. Because of some requests from the MSS China, lenovo has blocked the TPM option in this version. So in the bios' security tab, the "security chip" option disappeared and it can't be found in Windows Device Manager. Through some research, I found that the TPM chip has been installed (STM ST33ZP24AR28) and the peripheral components are complete. The blocking of the TPM is done in the BIOS, so I want to unlock the TPM menu in BIOS. Thank you Smile
