Fix UEFI bug - is it possible?

Hello,
I own an old Samsung laptop (R530-JA04IT) that - surprisingly - has got UEFI v2.0. The big problem is that the laptop came with 3GB of RAM, and from the day I added another GB of RAM by replacing the 1GB stick with a 2GB stick, the laptop refuses to boot any OS (Windows 7, Ubuntu etc) installed in UEFI mode. The new 2GB stick is not faulty and is compatible with the other 2GB stick: if the OS is installed in BIOS mode, all the 4GB of RAM work flawlessly.
So it looks like there is a bug in the UEFI implementation. My question is: is there anything that can be done to fix this issue? I think it's not possible.
Another interesting detail: the PC boots Ubuntu in UEFI mode with all the 4GB of RAM working only if it is installed on the SATA drive but with the /boot partition located on an external drive.

This is weird.

Thank you for your help!

HP Pavillion dv7 6c50er

Hi there,

[WORKING] T420s whitelist removal

Aopen Digital Engine DEX 4501 Mobo I45GMT-HC

This machine has AMI BIOS ver. 2.06, with very few options enabled.

Latest version of the Bios is ver. R. 1.06 downloadable here:
http://global.aopen.com/products_download.aspx?auno=2890

In addition to a little more control, I also seem to have problems with the onboard NIC. I wondered if there had been something set to deactivate the NIC while it was in the field, and whatever that might be is not getting reset when flashing?

When I got the machine it had a branded splash screen and an older bios version. Flashing it to 1.06 gave me the Aopen "Digital Engine" splash screen, but I really struggled to activate the NIC. I did a clear Cmos, remove battery and "Load Optimal Setings" before it would activate. I just swapped in a faster processor, and the Nic stopped working again, and I had another struggle to get it working.  (I used the AFUDOS filename.ROM  /P /B /N /C recommended by Aopen.) I thought I might have better luck if I flashed it at the first released bios, but that did nothing either. Currently it is at 1.06--the latest version.

There is a companion bios for a slightly different I45GMT motherboard (have one of those as well)--and the bios for it is at release 1.07 here:
http://global.aopen.com/products_download.aspx?auno=2664
(No troubles with the NIC on this one; it has the MoDT splash screen)
I can see no difference in functionality and in fact tried this bios on the DEX4501 as well, but it too did not magically make the NIC work consistently.

A modded bios for both or just for the DEX4501 would be appreciated.

(I originally posted this in the wrong forum-the Award forum--mods can delete...)

is there anyway to repair a corrupted bios using a hex editor?

hi dear friends,
some laptop manufactures are putting the bios update on their website instead of the complete bios file, like Sony VAIO, I was wondering if there is anyway to dump a laptops bios using a programmer and combine the Update file and the dumped file together using a hex editor? in other words, is there any technique to repair a laptops bios in the case that a laptop bios is corrupted and the screen is just black when it turns on and the update file is the only stuff I have which is half size of the full bios

Thanks in advance

do Sony VAIO laptops need special programmer for reflashing bios?

Hi there,
I've got a problem with VAIO laptops as if I dump the bios from a working vaio machine, desoldering the bios chip and putting it in the programmer and eventually dumping the chip, and again programming the dumped file into the bios chip without any modification and soldering the chip, the machine will show a blank screen!!!

is there any specific programmer required for this purpose?

any help on this is appreciated

dell 755 16 gb possibliy bios locked

hi
i have old dell desktop optiplex 755 .. officially it supports only 8 gb total ram (4 x2GB)
but as per below post most people have success with 16gb ram.

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19296075?pi21953=3

my id over there is warkadang.
as you can see i am using KVR800D2N6/4G featurewise it seems same as ohters are using..

the issue is that when i have only this ram stick in pc it doesnt posts (no display no beep) but when i use any other 2gb ram then it does posts and boots into windows but it doest adds the ram from the 4 gb sticks.

Also bios does shows that the ram in this stick is 4gb but in bios in the total ram section it doesnt counts it towards total.. e.g. i have 2 x 2gb sticks and two 4gb sticks though bios correctly identifies capacity of each bank but in total section it says 4gb ram (instead of 12gb).

i booted to windows ... windows also shows only 4gb but cpuz sees ram in each slot and shows total as 12gb..

i have tried bios a16 through a22 non worked. also tried a09 version ..

help .. if anyone suspects it to be bios issue.

Intel D975XLAG1 (Lavacot) CPU/RAM Upgrade

I recently picked up this Gateway E-6610D Workstation with all stock parts (besides using my GTX 960 because the ATI card had died) and I need some help with a few things. I bought some HP ECC RAM off of eBay (tested in another machine and does function perfectly) and all the specs seemed to line up compared to the stuff I had in the machine already. Basically I'm jumping from 4 GB Non-ECC to 8 GB of ECC RAM except it doesn't want to function properly. I put in 1-2-3-4 sticks in many slots and tried different things but it won't boot without beeping 3 times w/ no display output. It seemed very odd since both sticks were DDR2 667 MHz (5-5-5-12 @ 1.8V [PC2-5300]) but then I read on a website that RAM sticks with 16 chips per side didn't work with this system but 8 chip per side RAM sticks of the same size did... (or 64MBx32 not working but 128MBx16 working perfectly). Image may be NSFW.

Dodgy

I also bought an Intel Xeon X3230 (It hasn't arrived yet) off of eBay as an upgrade from the pre-existing Intel Core 2 Duo E6320. Some things I should mention: This board is ECC capable, this board is LGA775, this board includes 4 DIMM slots in Dual Channel configuration, and the max RAM supported is 8 GB (2 GB per stick).

There is a BIOS update for this board (which I'll link below from Gateway's website) but running it through the EXE updater wouldn't work and I don't have a clue on how to use IFLASH from a USB/Floppy. Image may be NSFW.

Confused

If anyone could help me in the slightest I would GREATLY appreciate any advice or help! (Also if I need to provide any additional information about this system just ask)

Thanks, Aaron.
