Insyde BIOS USB settings

Hi,

I am currently running the F.02 unlocked BIOS on my dv6-6b41ed, and I have a little question. Is there anyone around here who can tell me which USB device is what? And why are USB ports 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13 disabled by default? If anyone wants to know, I am currenly busy modding a backlit keyboard into my dv6, but I cannot get power on the connector. I read something about the connector being USB powered, so I thought maybe it is one of the devices in my BIOS (one of the disabled ones maybe?).
I added a picture of the BIOS as an attachment.

Hello everyone,

I'm new here and I hope it's not against the rules to post here the project I'm currently working on and I'd really like your opinion.

Project is BiosDB.com, and as I like to say: It's the weirdest thing you'll ever do Big Grin

tl;dr: I'm taking actual photos of BIOS settings and uploading them on my website in case you ever need to check what kind of BIOS settings you can expect when you're buying a laptop.

The long story:

Quote:Few months ago I had opportunity to work on really interesting project that required great amount of automatization. We started writing down hardware specifications for computers that will power this project, and among standard requirements we had some requirements that people don’t usually take into consideration when buying regular home PCs.

We weren’t buying them for regular use, and we had to make sure whole system will work 24/7/730 with minimal remote interventions from our developers.

So we went shopping and hit the brick wall. You can buy the computer, but you can’t enter BIOS before you pay for it. We were standing in the store, ready to buy multiple computers and other necessary equipment, and they didn’t allow us to enter the BIOS. Talk about what-the-* moments!

The only option they offered us was to call the authorized dealer for our area and hope they will give us the required info.

Time was running out, google search didn’t return any useful info and manufacturer’s websites had little or no info.

That same night, I registered this domain. I finally caught some time and decided to start this blog. And I need your help.

What do you think? Does it make any sense to you? Would you be willing to take a few minutes and upload your photos?

Hey there.

Could someone please unlock this BIOS so I can access advanced & power settings?

Here is the download link (UEFI version).
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_2.12_A_A.zip?acerid=635072928920489995&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%20E1-421&OS=81P1&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

(P.S.: I see that there's a link available for the E1-421-0-BR899, but I believe that it won't work with my model.)

Thanks!

EDIT: The E1-421-0-BR899 file worked fine here, so nevermind. Thanks anyway!

Request: Supermicro X7DB8 Change Defaults

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is something you guys can do, but I was hoping someone could modify the default settings for me.. I don't know why (possibly chalking it up to a dud replacement battery, just replaced it again, we'll see what happens) but this board has reset to defaults twiceon me out of the blue. I use onboard RAID1 for the SATA mode, and the default is IDE.. The first time it borked my Win12R2 install so bad I had to reinstall it (it refused to boot regardless of regedits or subsequent BIOS settings). The second time I caught it before it was able to attempt the boot so I could change it back to RAID, but it degraded the array and had to re-verify it.

I'd prefer if the defaults could be modified so that it defaults this known working config.. Is that possible?

Thanks!

[Request/Bounty] SUN X4170/X4270 CPU Support

I have read everything I can about adding CPU support to a BIOS and have added what I believe are the correct micro codes but I can't for the life of me get this to work...

Situation: SUN X4170/X4270 1366 system, will only POST with 55xx series Xeon CPU's, Xeon 56xx series CPUs will fail to POST

dumped bios, used MMTool to import the new microcode files into the BIOS, flashed BIOS and NVRam using AFUDOS, cleared CMOS and it still will not post with 56xx series Xeons

if someone can help me successfully get the 56xx series xeons posting in these machines I will paypal you $20?

I am not worried about bricking the board since I can easily flash the bios back to stock using the onboard service processors web interface even if you brick the board itself

[Unlocked] Acer Aspire One A110/A150 v3310 bios with NX-bit enabled

Hi gents.

I am the owner of an Acer Aspire One A110, which has an Intel Atom N270 CPU and came originally with Puppy Linux. After upgrading the memory (to 1.5Gb) and the SSD (to a mSata 60Gb) I already used it with Windows 7.

With the j-bios tool (http://www.jakobheinemann.de/j-bios.html) I was able to unlock the hidden forms Advanced and Power in the Insyde H20 bios. The bad thing only was that the option "Use NX capability" was disabled by default and grayed out, so I couldn't change its value.

But with the help of the information on donovan6000's Blog and its tool (http://donovan6000.blogspot.nl/2014/02/universal-ifr-extractor.html) I was able to get the option working and set the NX-bit to enabled!

Find attached the new, unlocked and NX-bit enabled bios!!!

With this modded bios I should be able to reserve my copy of Windows 10... Big Grin

Here are some screenshots of my system (in Dutch) after flashing the modded bios to proove that it really works!

In a subsequent post in this thread I will explain in detail how I did it.

Happy modding!
