[Request] i5 2500K on HP Pro 3500

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade my mates old computer for his son to use. He bought it off some eBay guy a while back, and turns out the motherboard is from an old HP Pro 3500.

Motherboard: Foxconn 2ABF (SOCKET 0) - reported via Speccy
BIOS: 8.14
Current CPU: i3 2125

I've sorted him a new GPU and RAM upgrade which are working fine, but the i5 2500K is coming up as unsupported and the PC shuts down. Subsequently found out no K series chips are supported according to the HP website. Stumbled across here via a Google search and see others have managed to fine ways around this on a (hopefully) similar computer (https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...h-i5-2500K)

Any help would be greatly appreciated Smile

Remove Whitelist for Lenovo T520

Hello!!

Well i'm by no means an expert at computers.  What i'm looking for is someone to be kind enough to give me a mini walkthrough on how to modify the BIOS on my system so that I can upgrade my wireless card.  And also ideally provide an updated BIOS i can use for my system for this.  I've just bought this used laptop and everything is great, other than the slow wireless card.

Here are the details for my machine:

Lenovo 4239CTO x64 based PC T520
Windows 10 Pro  -  Version 10.0.18363 Build 18363
BIOS Version - LENOVO 8AET49WW (1.29) 2011-07-11
SMBIOS Version 2.6

My current wireless card is:

Ethernet 802.3
1x1 11bgn wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter

The new wireless card i have purchased that gives me the fated 1802 error code is:

Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300
Model: 633ANHMW

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  And not sure if its a stupid question, but if the fix is like a program to run vs a bunch of code to use that would be great, because i'm pretty beginner at this.

Thank you!!!

Acer Predator Helios 300 bios

Hello All,

Recently I've decided to update BIOS for my Acer PH317-52776S laptop from version 1.19 to the latest version 1.26 . The reason is that sometimes the laptop shuts down under the high load. I did update of BIOS before from version 1 point something because release notes for this BIOS version stated that there are some NVMe drive improvements. Everything went smoothly during that update.

But this time the update was not finished successfully. I saw the progress bar of flashing process reached 100%. Then laptop went to blank screen. I waited for more then an hours and then restarted the laptop. Now I am able to enter BIOS setup but Linux start process often stops with kernel panic even from USB drive and windows does not start at all. I guess that update process was not completed properly for some reason.

I found that there is a recovery procedure which may help me to fix the issue with BIOS. But I still do not have all pieces to start recovery.

I would appreciate your help in getting answers on the following questions:
 1. BIOS archive contains 2 .fd files: DH53F_10.fd and DH53F_1A.fd. I was unable to find how to decide which one of them should be used to flash BIOS. Which one of those 2  .fd file contains the proper version of BIOS for my laptop?
 2. Also I didn't get the name that should be given to .fd file to start BIOS recovery procedure described in many sources. E.g. putting .fd file on USB flash drive with a proper name, pressing Fn+Esc during after the power button is pressed, etc. What is the correct name of .fd file that should be used to start BIOS recovery procedure?

Thanks,
Alx

Need Help accessing i2c EEPROM using a RasPi

I want to edit the contents of a chip on my Notebook.
I am trying to read out the contents of an i2c ROM that's a NXP P24S08A.

Following along with resources online I got as far as trying the "i2cdetect" command on my Raspberry Pi. On my first try it read nothing.

I tried again and tried "To find the address of your i2c slave device." https://payatu.com/using-rasberrypi-as-p...cking-tool
This is what I got:

It looks like success - it's reading something. But I don't really know what I'm doing, and now I'm basically stuck.

I'll follow up with a post of why I'm doing this and what I've done already. The short version is:
I believe that my Lenovo Thinkpad S1 has a security password after after the supervisor password was entered wrong too many times. I believe this password to be on the Security Chip which should be this NXP P24S08A.

I have found a schematic of my motherboard which is why I believe this (however this is all new to me, and I don't trust myself to know what I am doing). Very much hoping to learn through the help of other's more knowledgeable on this forum.

Who has tried to access a security chip ROM that communicates over i2c and can tell me how to continue??

Old Dell Inspiron 1150 - Unlock Hidden Options

Hello,

I'm trying to mod the bios on an old Dell Inspiron 1150.  I'm trying to Hackintosh it with an old version of Mac OS X (either Tiger, Leopard, or Snow Leopard), but the main problem is the only video modes are basically 8-bit depth with no higher resolution than 800x600.  According to the OSx86 wiki, the solution is to go into the BIOS settings and increase the video buffer size from 1 MB to 8 MB.  The problem is there is no such option in the BIOS to change that, and I'm on the latest BIOS from Dell (version A07).

From what I've read, Dell BIOSes are a tough nut to crack for BIOS modding.  I would assume that there must have been some progress as it's now 2020.  I was able to extract the ROM file with the /writeromfile option, but the resulting file can't be opened in Phoenix BIOS Editor (No BCPs found).  However, I managed to open the BIOS with the Phoenix Tool version 2.57.  I'm attaching the DUMP folder, together with the .exe and .rom file, winzipped.  I was following another PDF tutorial (which I'm also attaching in the zip file), but I can't find a .wph file to open, just a bunch of ROMs, and I don't know which one (if any) to open.  I would think I would have to modify something manually and then repackage the BIOS with the Phoenix tutorial, but I don't know how to do that.  Any help would be appreciated.

Ideapad S540 14IWL advanced menu enable on bios

hi,
i want to use hackintosh catalina on IdeaPad S540 14IWL
i used the tutorial at https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide...gs.293504/

the author of the guide says to enter advanced bios, with the following key combination:
Power off the laptop. Power button to turn on → F2 to enter the normal BIOS → Power button to turn off → then press the following keys in sequence:

F1 → 1 → Q → A → Z

F2 → 2 → W → S → X

F3 → 3 → E → D → C

F4 → 4 → R → F → V

F5 → 5 → T → G → B

F6 → 6 → Y → H → N

Turn on the power button → F2 enters the hidden BIOS (if unsuccessful, please speed up your hand and try again). Then go to:

Advanced → Power & Performance → CPU-Power Management Control → CPU Lock Configuration → CFG Lock → Disabled

but it is  not working on my laptop. i have version 30 bios (i tried with 27 and 28 also)
but still no luck..
so i got the bios updater and extracted the rom.
i have H2OEZE easy binary editor and export fd with this rom.
i have UEFI variable editor H2OUVE i can see the menu with loading fd file.
but i dont know how to enable the advanced tab.
if there is an option to modify the bios rom permenantly.. i need help..
by the way, i found the address of the CFG_LOCK at 0x3E and value was 0x03 with uefi viewer on macos (0xACE83 One Of: CFG Lock, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0x3E, VarStore: 0x3, QuestionId: 0x16C, Size: 1, )
i changed it with setup_var on grub (setup_var_3 worked for me , i used setup_var_3 0x3E 0x00).. but it seems it was not working..

here are the rom, dumped fd file and the original bios installer

Same BIOS Lenovo G50-70 and Lenovo Z50-70

Hi,

i have a Lenovo laptop model Z50-70 wiith integrated Intel video card and discrete nvidia GT 820M 3D card. Long time ago Nvidia video card stops working with windows code 43.

This days i try to recover this Nvidia card and when i try to update BIOS with Lenovo utilities i see that is not possible because my BIOS is different that utility needs to flash BIOS. I attach photo of error. Also in Lenovo web when support software detect my serial number says that my laptop is not a Z50-70, it says that is a g50-70 ¿?

Some time ago i had a problem with motherboard and one technical service solves this, i think  they change motherboard or reflash BIOS and modify my laptop model and laptop serial number from Z50-70 to G50-70-

My question is if its possible to flash in my laptop version 9BCNXXWW without problems to try to solve problems with Nvidia GT820m card. I open laptop and motherboard have this Nvidia chip.

Is same physical BIOS of G50-70 and Z50-70 motherboard?

Thanks

"bootmgr is corrupt" error after upgrading my cpu.

hello,

i have a hp pavilion p6231fr with a motherboard ""m2n68-la Narra6 6.00A"".i used to have an AMD Athlon™ II X2 215 Processor and now i just purchased an AMD phenom II x2 555.Therefore,my new processor is detectable in Bios(AMI v 5.04-amd agesa v3.5.1.0 attached below) and the cpu speed/cache memory all stated there.Even when i do a hp smart test from bios, my processor is healthy 100%.
Now the problem occurs AFTER the bios,by simply giving "bootmgr is corrupted.failed to load the os",even with a bootable windows7 installation image.
i have a linux ubunto bootable image, and when i tried it, it boots and just freezes on the 1st 5secs of loading.
so my best explanation here, is that my bios is having issues with my new cpu altho it read it and accept it.
i will try to test my cpu with stresslinux just to be sure(since this new cpu i bought is used Angel Angel ).
if anyone know a good bios modded with plenty of advanced options and settings, please share.

Intel s2400sc motherboard and e5-2400 v2 "ES" Processor

I need help:

I have intel s2400sc with a recent bios but wont work with E5-2400 v2 QE2k processor.

My bios version is 02.06.0006
and I have copy of bios version 02.06.0006 and 02.06.0007 I found on the internet.

according to bios release notes:
e5-24xx v2 support was introduced on version 01.08.0001
and non-"C1" stepping e5-24xx v2 support was dropped on 01.08.0003

I can no longer find the old bios file that supports ES processor. I already search on the 70GB file in archive.org for the intel.com.

Can anyone help me run processor on the motherboard?

I have no experience on bios modding but I'm willing to learn.

I don't know where to start and what tools to use.

Many Thanks.
