[AMI] Flash .12 file, how to apply?

$

Hi, I have APX78-BN Mini-ITX Motherboard and would like to flash it to support more recent CPUs. It can be done as there is a thread on this very forum that describes the process, to recall:

Hewlett Packard provides fool proof executable for bios flash, upon execution, files are extracted to temp folder, of these files, one must be replaced with an updated equivalent, a file kindly provided by another user here.

However this HP utility won't run on my OS, so I'd like to know how to apply a file with .12 extension to the BIOS without HPs tool. At a glance it seems AMI have a flash tool called AFUWIN.EXE.

The updated flash file is "NUT5.12" but it's not clear how to combine this with AFUWIN.EXE.

Any tips?

Unfortunately after press Patch I see dialog with message "You input a wrong GUID", Image information field is empty.

Thank you and excuse my bad english.

[REQUEST] MSI GP70 2QE - Hot Plug Enabling

Hi there,

I've setup an eGPU solution for my laptop and it's working ok. It would work much better in cases of power outages etc. if I had a hotplug enabled pci-e port. I've tried some methods described on "Internet" but no luck :/ No matter how I mod the bios, PC wouldn't allow me to flash.

If someone who knows what he or she's doing could enable hotplug for "PCI Express Root Port 6" I'd be much grateful.

Here's the default BIOS fresh from 2014:

Help with Dell N5010 bricked trying to update microcode - Cross Post

I originally posted the below in the general help section, but I thought I might get better results here as it is related to CPU microcode.  I'm not trying to expand CPU functionality, but I am trying to manually update the microcode for security.

I tried to add the updated microcode for my i7 640m processsor since Dell isn't applying the updates. The latest microcode has a Spectre patch I wanted to apply.

I booted into DOS and used AFUDOS  3.07.01 command /O to backup my current BIOS.

I used MMTOOL 4.50.0.23 to insert the 06-25-05 file from Intel located here.  There was only one other microcode listed under the CPU Patch tab, but it was for a different CPU ID.  Which seems odd as my i7 640m was an upgrade, but I haven't had any issues with it. Did I need to delete that other microcode?

I then booted back into DOS and flashed with AFUDOS using the /P /B /K command per this guide.   That gave me a ROM ID does not match BIOS ID error, so I added /X to the command.  That happily bricked my laptop.

I have a hardware flasher so I can recover it, but I'd prefer to hardware flash it with a bios file patched with the latest micro code.  Before I do that I could use some help determining where I went wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help.

This is my backup file.

I have about 75 Panasonic CF-31's that I bought in an auction from a county sherrif's dept. I can put in a hard drive and load windows, but I cannot access the BIOS, it is locked. I have spoken with their IT and their only response was to make an appointment and bring one in for them to clear, apparently I'm supposed to take the next couple years getting one unlocked at a time when they have time to see me. Can anybody help?

HP Probook 6455b : GPU BIOS MODIFY

Anyone know how to enter Advanced BIOS on this laptop to increase video memory from 320MB to 512MB? thanks

I'd like to update the firmware to the 512MB memory version or increase the core clock in the BIOS to 675mhz over the stock 500mhz.

Can you do that?

Thanks

I think we can edit the BIOS with RBE .. Radeon BIOS Editor

[REQUEST] Mi Notebook Pro H2OUVE explanation

Hello guys! I got Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro, which have pretty beautiful but useless BIOS (which is InsydeH2O by the way). So, after some research I tried to change variables i need:
  1. via setup_var method (gave me can't change variable via efi error 0x0....008)
  2. setup_var2 (said that variable is out of scope).
  3. I tried Flash Register Protection disabling as described here, but I used Air variables so I guess it doesn't worked.
I don't understand how modders determine which bit in dump is need to be changed, there is no guides about it. But it passed without any errors and nvram changed, so i guess the only working way to change variables without flashing modded BIOS  is to change H2OUVE dump and send it to NVRAM.(I don't want to flash modded BIOS as I didn't got SOIC8 clip atm, already ordered it but it's month of waiting).
H2OUVE modding sounds quite easy but as I don't know how to do this (I don't understand the algorithm of changing bits in certain place) it's impossible without community. So, I'm asking for help! I'm attaching the BIOS .bin file and IFR extracted vars, also I uploaded vars.txt dump from H2OUVE.
The modifications i want to use:
  1. CFG Lock - Disabled
  2. DVMT Pre-alloc - 64M
  3. Intel Speed Shift - Enabled
Not necessary but still really pleasured:
  1. Advanced menu (there is some conditions in bios which can enable it, i guess at least one of them is changable via NVRAM)
  2. DVMT Max GFX size to MAX
  3. Flash Protection Range Registers - Disabled (allows to flash modified bios via FPT)
The main reason of the post is to understand how that HEX magic is working at all, I really didn't found any valuable guides, only examples but not actually way to determine what you need to change, for example this piece of PowerShell code patches H2OUVE dump to disable Flash Protected Registers Registers, but I really can't understand what it does, what is offset? Dear modders of this forum, please, explain this, maybe there will be less stupid questions after.
Code:
$location = Get-Location
$bytes = [System.IO.File]::ReadAllBytes("$location\nvram.bin")
$text = [System.Text.Encoding]::Default.GetString($bytes)
$offset_bytes = 0x32, 0x35, 0x30
$offset_text = [System.Text.Encoding]::Default.GetString($offset_bytes)
$offset = $text.IndexOf($offset_text) + 0x1E
$bytes[$offset] = 0x30
[System.IO.File]::WriteAllBytes("$location\nvram.bin", $bytes)
I'll post vars.txt in 10 mins as i rolled back to BIOS 300. Here you go, vars.txt from stock untouched BIOS 603.
P.S Also, that BIOS is installing via H2OFFT for 64-bit UEFI Shell, which is quite new for me as I get used to exe. It doesn't matter as it doing same operations, but there are some interesting files. For example there is unlockme.sh (which is maybe unlocking Intel ME, because after this it's switching to Manufacture mod), it gives a command SndEcCmd.efi C9E D00. I attached full installer downloaded from Xiaomi site if it's interesting for you. By the way, can I do anything useful with this?

Dear Experts at bios-mod. I was hoping if you could modify the bios for my Zotac z77 itx. It is an AMI based bios.

This is the link to the bios https://www.zotac.com/my/files/download/by_product?p_nid=351050&driver_type=238&os=All&=View+results
I have also attached the bios file as well just in case.

Current Specs:
i7 3770k @4.5
G.Skill Trident X 2666 @ 2133 @1.65v
Zotac z77 itx
Samsung evo 850 1tb.

-Problem:
I cannot oc my ram to 2666. It is stuck at 2133 for the following reasons:
1) no voltage control for IMC/VTT
2) memory tRFC is locked at 255, I was wondering if you could unlock this and set it to 400 as the max.
3) if you could unlock other important standard options for overclocking, that would be awesome as well.
4) if would be awesome if you could update microcodes for spectre and meltdown as well

-my goal
I have a g.skill ddr 3 trident x 2666 running at 21333 10-11-11-31, I want to overclock it to 2666. However, I am unable to do so because 1)there is no voltage control for IMC/VTT and the tRFC is locked at 255. TridentX wants ~350 in its XMP profile.

-What I have done to address my issues
I contacted Zotac and they basically told me to go F myself. I contacted G.SKill and they told me that I should have checked their compatibility page before buying their stuff. Both companies are shirking their responsibilites. Please help me Gods of Bios!

  • Bios download link from manufacturer site: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/produ...s/ds018785
  • PCI ID of the Wifi/WWAN card that originally came with the laptop: Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] (However I am wanting to upgrade to Intel 7260 Dual-Band AC)
  • I don't know if this BIOS is RSA Signed but I acknowledge the risks if it is
I currently have BIOS version 1.49 installed, but there are also versions 1.50 and 1.51 on the aforementioned download link, as well as many older versions

1.49: 83ET79WW
1.50: 83ET80WW
1.51: 83ET81WW

I'm mainly looking for the whitelist removal so I can install the Intel 7260 AC WiFi card, but I would also like to get the unlocked 16GB DDR3 speed and eGPU capability if possible. I don't know if I need 3 separate mods or what (I'm brand new to this, never needed to have a BIOS modded before).

Not sure if my current BIOS version is too new or if i need to downgrade (if it's even possible to downgrade?). I don't particularly care which version is used as long as it works.

Thanks in advance if anyone's able to help!  Smile
