Unlocking Aptio on Samsung notebook.

Hello,

I tried to unlock the BIOS in my notebook, but I'm stuck on "change the bits in hexeditor" part of the fun.

What I did:

-Read BIOS with AFUWINGUI 3.07 -> backup.rom
-Opened the .rom file with AMIBCP 4.53 and set the stuff I want to be visible to "USER"
(Now, here is the first worrying thing:
http://i.imgur.com/rRtfKPt.png
The menu is not just hidden, its in fact some other Samsung-like menu, located near the original one)
-Opened the .rom file with MMTool 4.50.0.23
-Found the C7 Index with filename "Setup" and copied its GUID:
899407D7-99FE-43D8-9A21-79EC328CAC21
-Opened .rom file with UEFITool NE Alpha32
-Found the GUID in file and extracted it as-is to Setup.ffs
-Opened the Setup.ffs in HexWorkshop, but I can't find anything corresponding to the magical:
01 01 00 01 01 01 numbers, or anything near it (neither zeroes, or I think any combination)
And so, here I am, stuck trying to mod my bios.

Notebook specs:
SAMSUNG NP350V5C-S08PL
P09ABE.012.CP
123490EN400015
Eureka

From BIOS Features tab in AMIBCP:
BIOS Date: 07/04/2013 00:00:00 Ver: 1APTJ (although the BIOS Information, and the info in bios itself says its P09ABE)
BIOS TAG: 1APTJ022

I'm attaching original .rom file, modded (with USER settings) .rom file and Setup.ffs in case anyone needs it to help me.

I'm trying to squeeze as much power out of my Sony E Series (SVE14A390X) as possible before I embark on building a full-size rig.
The final piece in the puzzle is overclocking the cpu, which my i7-3632QM is capable of thanks to Turbo Boost.

HOWEVER, my current BIOS (AMI Aptio 4 R0210V5) does not give me many options at all beyond Hyperthreading.
Can this BIOS be unlocked? I don't know precisely what you need, so here's everything I know:

Sony E Series SVE14A390X
BIOS: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-downl...roup_id=27
https://ami.com/products/bios-uefi-firmware/aptio-4/ (I know my BIOS is UEFI and running whatever Aptio 4 is)

I can go find the motherboard SN and/or driver/firmware if need be. Please let me know what else I can do!

I want to unlock my bios to be able to enable hot plugging on my miniPCIe port on my laptop, but it has a Sandy Bridge CPU, which the tutorial does not include (http://voltground.com/haven/threads/102/). Is it still possible? I want to be able to use my GTX 1050 for an eGPU.

Thanks!

Please help me with HP BIOS modding

Hello everyone,

I've recently decided to try and mess with my laptop's BIOS. It's a HP Elitebook 8760w, and since I dropped in an extreme processor, I feel I should be able to overclock it (it also has the usual whitelist issues and a dreaded 1333MHz limit on RAM speed, but one problem at a time).

So, I read that these BIOSes are RSA encrypted, however I was able to unpack the ROM file with PhoenixTool and disassemble it with ndisasm. The installer package does have RSAcrypt files in a separate folder, it may be that HP checks it when flashing. The ROM itself doesn't seem to be encrypted from what I can tell.

What I'm looking for is a module where bit 63 (3f?) of register 0x610 is set - it's responsible for locking the Turbo Power Limit settings, which is the most important part of overclocking an extreme Sandy Bridge.

My knowledge of Assembly is limited, I looked for any mov/bts/btr/or operations involving 0x610 - there are a few of them, but I don't see a clear mov then bts anywhere. I'm not sure what other ways could be used to set the bits.

It is possible that it's not even the BIOS responsible for this, but the Intel Management Engine firmware, but I'd like to make sure.

If anyone can look into it and advise, point me in the right direction, I'd be really grateful.

I have attached the BIOS file itself.

The full package can be downloaded from HP's site: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/publi...nvOid=4061

Thank you!

Correcting a Lenovo Y40-70 BIOS' Info

I have come across a Lenovo Y40-70 with the internal Serial/Model marked as "INVALID" in the BIOS and, while I can't verify, am having difficulties installing Windows.  I've played with many tools (PhoenixTool, WinPhlash, UEFIWinflash, etc) and have seen tutorials for fixing other BIOS that have this issue, but am unable to access the DMI parameters to set them correctly.  WinPhlash/UEFIWinflash gives me a "wrong BIOS" or "incorrect .bin" or some sort error when I try to access DMI settings.  Other tools don't even give me the option to access DMI, or anything close to what I want.

TL;DR -  how can I add/change my model name and serial into my Y40-70 BIOS?

Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Hi all, new user here. Maybe not the correct place to ask this as I want to change the logo myself if someone can help me on my way. But if someone can do it for me, that's alright too.

I have been searching for days now on how to change the ugly Lenovo logo when starting up my Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK.

Last weekend I didn't know anything about it and I learned a lot since, but now I am stuck. This is how far I 've gotten:

I downloaded the bios update from Lenovo: both cdcn35ww.exe (older version) and cdcn53ww.exe (latest version), both end up with the same problem.

In my BIOS I enabled the option to flash back to a previous version, so I don't get an error message in Windows 10 that I'm trying to go back to an older version or already have the version I 'm trying to install (after which the program ends).

Running the BIOS update I downloaded opens "Setup - Lenovo BIOS Update Utility" and extracts a file with the same name (cdcn53ww.exe) to C:\BIOS\CDCN53WW\

Running this file opens "Insyde H2OFFT v5.56" and extracts the following files to C:\USERS\ThC_be\AppData\Local\Temp\7zs900E.tmp\:
CDCN53WW.fd
Ding.wav
FlsHook.exe
FlsHookDll.dll
FWUpdLcl.exe
H2OFFT-W.exe
iscflash.dll
iscflash.sys
iscflashx64.sys
platform.ini
xercex-c_2_7.dll

Happy to see the fd file I try to open it in EzH2O thinking I 'll be able to change the Logo/Splash Screen only to get the following error message: "Program can't find fv information in FD file".

Anybody have an idea on what I can do now? Thanks in advance.

With a EEPROM programmer I read the BIOS chip, but can't find how to remove whitelist. Search the forum, looking for a tutorial, but no luck. Try Phoenix BIOS editor, Phoenixtool, no luck.
This notebook came to repair without a wireless card. I tried other boards, but without success
