Lenovo Z500 unbrick help

To begin with, I don't know if this is the right sub-forum to post. Please correct me if necessary.
My sad story begins here: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...45WW-V1-18 .
The guy did a good job, I flashed it, changed the wi-fi card and all went fine.
Until one day when I disabled the integrated Intel GPU from advanced bios menu. Yeah, stupid.  Angry I was thinking to use only the Nvidia card...

So now the laptop is not booting. Just a 3-5 seconds attempt, with black screen, fan working for even less than that, keyboard lighting up. Then it shuts down.
If it's plugged in, it will keep rebooting until it stabilizes with fan off, HDD seems to be on judging by the sound of it, keyboard light up, black screen.
I cannot enter bios menu blindly in order to reset it with F9 and F10. I don't think it gets to where I could press F2, it shuts down too fast.

I then took the motherboard out and removed the 3V  battery. Still no luck, it was the same.

Then I got in touch with the great dude that modded my bios and he told me that I have to rewrite the bios onto the chip using a spi-programmer.

So I went to a big, certified service in my town (Cluj-Napoca, Romania), explained the problem to them and waited for 6 days. Today I went back to them and I was told the motherboard needs to be changed. They rewrote some original bios version and it's still the same problem, so they told me. I was quite skeptical and told the technician to explain it a bit to me, but he just bragged a bit about it, no real explanation of what could have gone wrong and how is this suddenly a HW problem. I don't know how or if they rewrote the chip(s). Maybe they want to sell me a motherboard and that's it. I'm not buying it either way. Shy

Also, can you tell me if there are two chips, or only one with the bios on them? I am not certain what motherboard version is in there, but from my searches it could be this: http://www.rom.by/files/compal_la-9063p_r1.0_schematics.pdf
The modder told me this: " your bios chip W25Q32BV    ID:0xEF4016 Size: 4096KB ".

So now I'm asking you what to do, since I won't buy a new motherboard, I'd better buy a new laptop for what it's worth.

Tomorrow I'm going back to the service with the modded bios that I still have and ask them to flash it in front of me, since they say their clients can do that. If it won't boot after that, I'm out of ideas...
However, for my own knowledge, I'm trying to understand how could this be a HW problem, I mean it didn't boot right after I rebooted from bios with the disabled GPU. Is something like this possible, a trashed board because of that? I'm having a hard time believing it and the modder also. I kept writing emails to him and he is quite prompt. From what he told me, the board is fine, just the bios needs to be written with a spi-programmer.

Are we right? Please, help ! I'm in a mental breakdown, my Nexus 5 decided to die on me too.  Undecided

I have an SPI 25 Programmer, I am aware that the modded bios has to be flashed manually, I am ready for that.
I was able to change the Setup variables through EFI Shell. first I had to downgrade my bios from F.65 to F.63 to do that.
(Create USB recovery with "sp66941" and use Win+B to downgrade)

Here is a picture of the Setup Menu Link

Hi,

I own an Toshiba Satelilte L50-C-1PC. As far as I can see the BIOS/UEFI does not enables AHCI by default and there is no option to do that.

Can a pro take a look onto this? It would be great to unlock this option here.

Remove or Deactivate Computrace from Dell Bios (Optiplex 745)

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right section to the request but since it's related to hackintosh so i thought i'd post it  here.  I've bought a few Dell Optiplex machines in the hope that i'd be able to turn them into hackintosh but the 745 optiplex ones to be exact have computrace active under the bios.   I've tried everything I could by resetting the bios, clear cmos and no luck.  Now, i'm not exactly sure if by tweaking the latest bios will somehow remove the computrace or deactivate it.  If there's any hope, please help guys.  I'd hate to get rid of them because they make such great little hackintosh machines.  Thanks in advance.

Editing a Acer M29A bios

I've recently got an old SGI Visual Workstation 550 PC. It's a standard PC based on Acer's M29A motherboard which uses the Intel 840 chipset with Pentium III Xeons. Unfortunately it only offers very basic settings and none of them are performance related (can't change FSB, memory timings etc.). I tried opening the BIOS with any of the standard utilities - Award BIOS editor, Phoenix BIOS editor and AMIBCP, but none of them recognize this BIOS. The SETUP program itself doesn't give any hints what type of BIOS it is. Can anyone check the file and tell me what should I use to edit? I've uploaded the file here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sn86o1eytfxbh9...s.zip?dl=0 .

Lenovo Yoga 2 13: flash Insyde-Bios in DOS

$

Hi there,

I have a Yoga 2 13, that runs nothing but DOS: Windows 7, 8, and Linux live/install USB-keys just fail in the boot-process, while boot-menus and Bios are accessible. I hope it's Bios related, because all components which are replacable aren't the issue.

I tried "Flashit" with the ROM-File Lenovo provides (found inside a exe-archive), but I got "Error:not support at-p". What does that mean? Or how do you flash the Bios in DOS if not with Flashit?

AMI BIOS & UEFI UPDATE

Hi,

We have a nice collections of identical machines utilizing the Pegatron IPXPV/DC/GB v1.01 Motherboard with an AMI BIOS from 2011.  Recently, our software requirement were changed and now all the units need to be upgraded to 64bits.  Since the BIOS doesn't presently support UEFI the installation of Windows 7 Pro 64bits crashed in the middle.  We tried to retrieve from a MFG image, install on another machine and migrate the drive over without drivers .... Nothing worked so far.

Does anybody have a good work around, patch or hack for the present BIOS.  I have tried looking on the Pegatron site and to no avail.  I went directly to the OEM Manufacturer and they of course want to only sell us new machines so they claim no firmware update is available.  All my searches came up empty.  Is there a generic mod that I can apply or use ?  I even ventured into the MOD area but I have to admit, when I saw the source codes that people were posting, I knew I was in way over my head.  I can handle my own flashing firmware in DOS mode but that source code looked intimidating.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Ty
