HP Compaq 6735s CPU Upgrade

HI Everyone.

I have an HP Compaq 6735s with AMD Sempron SI-42. I'm not very pleased about this cpu and I want to upgrade to a dual-core cpu (I know the more powerful cpus can melt my laptop, but hey, other people did it and are just fine Big Grin ).
I already tried to change it with AMD Turion 64 x2 Ultra ZM-85, Turion RM-75 and Turion TL-56 (this one should have worked for sure, since it's socket is S1G1, and MB's socket is S1G2, backward compatible). None of them worked. I have flashed my BIOS from version F.0E 09/14/2009 to F.21 07/30/2012. The new BIOS is good but didn't worked too. After cpu replacement laptop wont boot. Caps lock led blink five times and stop with no display on the screen (General system board failure). When I place back my Sempron, the laptop comes back to life.

I think my BIOS reject other CPUs. What can I do now?
I attached a photo of my laptop specs.
Ohhhh, btw, can you tell me what type is my bios? (I hate it Angry)

Sorry for my bad english, I'm Romanian...
Thanx.

Good Afternoon to everyone Smile
I would like to request (If possible) if someone could enable the menu for setting the FSB, System and Memory Clock as well as the IGPU Overclock Options.

The Bios Whitelist is already removed and the "Advanced" Menu is available (big thank you to the User "TTAV134" for this Smile ) but I can't select the Frequency Menu...

The System is the HP Mini 110-3615eg with an Insyde F.23 Bios. I am still pretty inexperienced and would be very grateful for any help Smile

Here is the Link to the Bios:

Manufacturer: Sony
Notebook Model: VAIO VGN-N250E/b
Motherboard Model: MBX-160
BIOS Revision: R0070J4
BIOS Type: Phoenix BIOS
BIOS Download Link:

.rom  PhoenixTechnologiesLTD-R0070J4.rom (Size: 1 MB / Downloads: 0) <- UntouchedBIOS.ROM

.rom  R0070J4-INTELMENU.ROM (Size: 1 MB / Downloads: 0) <- Modded(IntelMenu).ROM

RW Everything Report Download Link:
.doc  AcpiTbls.rw.doc (Size: 237.01 KB / Downloads: 0) <- (I had to put the ".doc" extension on the end of the file name, because the site wouldn't let me upload it, just remove the ".doc".)

I want to modify my own BIOS (to add options/menus) and eventually participate in the BIOS modding community. I have already succeeded in enabling/disabling features (AHCI, VT-x, Service/Repair Mode, Phoenix Info Screen, adding items to boot menu, etc.) using the NVRAM registers. In PBE and HxD (Hex editor), I have succeeded in adding a hidden Intel menu and placing options in menus of my choice (I used PBE as an emulator). I have learned to find token IDs' function(s) by tracing strings to their respective token id's in TEMPLAT0.ROM.

The problems I am having are as follows:
1.) I need a guide on how to create a flashable BIOS dump.
2.) I have read about PBE causing problems when extracting and/or repacking the BIOS. How can I safely (as possible) unpack and repack my BIOS?

For creating a flashable BIOS, I know I need some kind of configuration/platform data from another BIOS update.exe (same series, same chipset). I've already extracted a .wph file (UniExtract) from a R0030J4 BIOS (
.rom  R0030J4.wph.rom (Size: 1 MB / Downloads: 0) (again, I had to add a different file extension for it to upload, just remove the ".rom")), but I don't know what to do with it...

I know that I am asking for a lot, but this will allow me to start modding BIOS's. Any help is highly appreciated. Thank-you.

Hello everyone, I was playing around with my bios but I can't do anything about unlocking advanced features, like the clocks frequency, dram timings, GPU memory allocation and others. I made only a SLIC mod, but it's not enough.

Exotic: Getac X500 BIOS unlock request

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade my Getac X500 (Fully rugged, QM57 Chipset, Phoenix BIOS). Officially it supports an i7-640M (35W) and 8Gb memory maximum.

Now, I have tried to upgrade it with a i7-940XM (55W), and the BIOS will recognize it perfectly, no problems. I can boot into DOS, do whatever I want. If I try to install Windows 8 however, half-way during the 'detecting-driver' stage the laptop will just turn off. Upon reboot it will complain it shut down unexpectedly and I should restart the installation. Now I have ruled out a temperature shutdown (keeping it cool up to that point). It is always at the same point as well.

Considering the memory, I tried putting in 16Gb (2x8mb) memory, which again is recognized normally in the diagnostics screen (16384kb). Only when I enter setup the amount of memory is shown as 0 KB and when booting, windows shuts down with the new frowny BSOD (probably also getting the 0KB memory). DOS boots fine.

I get the idea that the BIOS is not filling in certain fields (ACPI table?), not setting options or doing things for configurations not specifically enabled in it.

So I tried Phoenix BIOS Editor, but it doesn't seem to work on my bios (PSI Analysis Fail! error). So I tried phoenixtool214, which extracted its components and identified it as "Phoenix BIOS (New Style)".

I have looked through STRINGS00.ROM and it seems there are a shitload of options in the BIOS not visible to me. So I figured I'd ask here if you can unlock them.

Additionally, the laptop has two BIOS files, one SYS and one KRC/EC (This string is in the ROM file: "EC-V12.2 Copyright ITE Tech. Inc."), don't know what this is. Also, the upgrade zip from the manufacturer includes a .cer file, I hope flash updates aren't signed, since that would probably mean I'm up sh*t creek and I totally forgot to rent the paddle, right?

So, I'd be grateful if you could unlock the hidden menus in the setup to start with, and (considering this is a laptop for military use) if you notice anything weird or interresting or related to the CPU and memory not working while you're at it, please don't be shy to let me know Wink

Once upon a time (20 years ago) I actually wrote my own BIOSes in assembler and whatnot (after soldering new crystals on the board), but sadly most of that is hazy when looking back. Additionally, apparently BIOSes now are just zipfiles full of all kinds of crap I have no idea about Wink But I'd be willing to assist and learn again.

Ideally I would learn how to do this myself, but I don't have the time unfortunately Sad

So any help (and any technical explaination) from you is much appreciated. BIOS-es are attached.
