[REQUEST] Acer V3-472G Unlock

$

Hello everybody!

I'd like to access advanced BIOS settings on my laptop. My ultimate goal would be to use two SSD-s in a RAID0 array, if possible (Extra drive in ODD caddy, i'm not sure the chipset has RAID btw). Also, other users of this machine reported that there are problems (disk not recognized properly) when just using a disk instead the optical drive. Also, I think I could really benefit from things like unlocking the Turbo TDP limit, or any overclocking capabilities that are maybe possible, or acces to enabling/disabling HPET timers (that really helped my DPC latency spikes on my previous Acer laptop /w modded BIOS).

The laptop type is Acer V3-472G
I do not have pictures(could take photos) from stock bios, but basically it has the same basic options like InsydeH2O BIOS-es nowadays in cheap laptops.
The original BIOS ROM, extracted by BIOS backup tool
The stock BIOS on Acer's site

Thanks for the help in advance,
K

Ps: I've checked the ROM with Andy's BIOS tool (downloaded from here), and i think the BIOS is not RSA signed. Am I right in this?

CBROM has lots of options. Some of them even not displayed in output of CBROM /?. I have made a wiki page, and I think you can add descriptions of the options which are not documented and clarify the descriptions of the options which are slightly documented.

SPI bios saviour

IMPORTANT Warning : I have not tested this idea, but I post it here. I am not liable for any damages. You do anything on your own risk

Surfing the Net about SPI port on my MB have found a very curious post.
In the comments it was discussed that it is possible to connect an additional flash chip t mb.
1 SPI memory has 8 pins. We are especially interested in 2 ones:
CS# and HOLD#.
Signal I/O Description
SO - data output.
SI - data input.
SCK - clock.
#CS - Chip select. Active chip must have it pulled down, all other chips must have it pulled up.
#HOLD - when pulled down (falling edge) , stops any communication and waits for rising edge. Beetween it the state is stored.

#W - protects the memory area specified by Status Register bits BP2:BP0 when pulled down.
V_CC - power.
GND - ground.

SPI chips can be connected parallelily, active chip is selected using CS.

Some MB has an SPI port connected to pins of the memory chip. You can buy additional SPI microschemes and create a PCB of such design:
In the top is JSPI1 connector of mb where #HOLD of chip on MB (the most left pin of connector on the picture) is grounded (it seems we need to put here a resistor to prevent shortcut).
The memory chips on PCB are connected to SPI, and upper chip is selected.
#CS of JSPI1 is already grounded because main system bios is already selected, but groundring #HOLD we disabled it and can use the enabled chip on PCB instead of it.

Problem with updated bios with xPower II x79 + 2490X (ES)

I will try to explain the best I can; I first had a 3930K processor, than I got my hands on a 4960X ES (Engineering Sample) processor, so before installing that CPU I updated my BIOS (as explained in my previous thread: here). Flashing the BIOS went well and was running the 4960X ES processor with a modified version of the E7737IMS.270 (latest) BIOS. However the overclocking potential of my 4960X ES was not that good. Apparently the 4960X are no real good overclockers unfortunately.

So I started searching for a new processor again; this time I got my hands on a 2490X ES (which is a 3960X actually). So took my computer apart and installed the processor... And guess what? It didn't boot; I got several BIOS debug codes, amongst them was 'b2'.
At first I thought it was the processor, as it being used and probably was DOA, so I decided to use the Multi BIOS switch (the MSI Big Bang xPower II x79 has 3 different BIOS's). And it booted up. However this BIOS is really, really outdated. I never flashed it, so therefor it was still there probably. The old BIOS version was 1.7 or 1.4. This version works with the 2490X ES processor.

My guess is, is that Intel removed the support from the newer BIOS files (or updated Intel ME, or removed the B0 microcode). Therefor the 2490X (in real a 3960X) won't post / boot up with the newer BIOS files. The modded BIOS I had, also had the updated microcode (updated it from within UBU), but that BIOS version would not boot up the 2490X.

I did some searching on Google and found the following post:
Quote:I have a QA8V/QA93 2490X cpu these are B0 Stepping, I run mine on my sabertooth X79 @ 4.8Ghz , since 1404 is the last bios ver for your mobo that contains microcode for B0 samples do not upgrade the bios unless you have a newer ver that is edited. you can use flashback USB or buy a new bios on eBay for $15, BIOS Ver 1203 for the Sabertooth X79 is the last bios that supports B0 Samples.
Source: here

I think I am experiencing the same. The older BIOS supports the 2490X ES processor, where the new BIOS files don't support it anymore.

Is there a way to edit the microcode so I can boot the 2490X ES, but with a newer (and updated/modded) BIOS?

I have uploaded both bios files, since I couldn't add them as an attachment unfortunately.

- E7737IMS.140 (old BIOS, with 2490X support)
- E7737IMS.270 (new BIOS, without 2490X support or removed the microcode for it)

[update]
found a "newer" older version: E7737IMS.150
[/update]

Link: E7737IMS.140
Link: E7737IMS.270

[newer older version]
Link: E7737IMS.150

All files are in .rar format.

Any ideas?

//update

I compared the old CPU microcode from 1.40 with the one from 2.70 and I noticed the difference straight away (and what was stripped), check the screenshot below:

Hi,
I am looking to modify my nt425h to enable ahci. It uses an Ami bios.

Could anyone be of help? I attached the Bios file. Some advanced settings would also be nice like overclocking etc. The bios has almost no options.

Hello!!

I've been looking for a while on how to enable AHCI on my old notebook Sony VGN-CR21S / P.

I have installed a ssd and really goes well because it does not have ahci.

I have installed windows 7 pro 64 bits and 4gb ram DDR800 @ 667 mhz

The notebook pc drivers are here and as the bios that page is:

http://sonyvaiodriver.com/category/sony-...p-drivers/

R1121Q0

Until Friday I will have a new charger for the laptop and I can not verify 100% but should be putting this page.

In the list of NVRAM does not appear that this can be enabled AHCI bios. Is it true? How could enable ?. I would not mind putting another bios the laptop pc.

CR Models:
VGN-CR240E R1121Q0 reg 05BB
VGN-CR290E R1121Q0 reg 05BB
VGN-CR231E R1121Q0 reg 05BB
VGN-reg CR29XN R1121Q0 05BB
VGN-CR220E R1121Q0 reg 05BB

Thank´s.

Greetings all,

New user and NOOB to modding BIOS.

I was under the impression that you could mod the BIOS to a HDD limit, and make a non-ACPI system compliant, but I thought I saw on here that the HDD limit stuff is archived????

Any assistance?

Thanks!

ASUS X200MA BIOS Unlock Request

When I view my BIOS info it says 'American Megatrends', which I assume to be AMI. I intend to request a WLAN whitelist removal later, but for now I'm only interested in unlocking any advanced/hidden features (if any exist). The latest BIOS version for my model is 502, so the file I downloaded from ASUS support site is what I'm providing. I requested an unlock for a Lenovo G700 earlier this year, but multiple flashing attempts yielded errors. Hopefully this will be successful.
