Lenovo IdeaPad Y530

Hi All,
I would like to ask for help.
Some time ago I decided that I replace an old HDD to SDD, I did swap and I tried install Windows 10 (!) After the computer booted from USB I was surprised black screen (I red in the internet that on this model is hard to install W10). So I rebooted computer and I tried install Windows 7. Windows 7 did not install too, but without black screen. I turned off computer. After that I could not turned it on.  Computer flashed only for few seconds and turned off.
No idea what happened. I went to the laptop service and they told my that GPU is dead/or motherboard or both.
Well, I thought, old laptop maybe I did not have a luck
I decided to buy new parts. I found used but working motherboard and gpu. I decided to buy "green motherboard" DDR3 and nVidia Geforce 9600M GS, before I had a yellow/gold - DDR2 and GPU nvidia Gefore 9300M GS
I installed everything in order, connect all cables, tapes etc..
Laptop turned on, everything is "working" (I believe), CPU, GPU, north-bridge, are warm and fan is spinning, but I have a black screen, no display, even if I connected external monitor.
What I think maybe my BIOS doesn't work correctly with GPU, or WiFi, or something else. I would like to flash new unlocked one and try.
What I know laptop's bios has got something like "white list" I would like to remove all blockage.
Has anyone here can share with me unlocked bios or shall I do it myself but I do not know which module and what to edit in Hex editor.
I could not find any solution for my laptop, it is not popular.
I know that this is an old laptop and maybe it is not worth to save it but I like it and I would like to get it to run.
For any thought I would be very gratefully.
Thanks
Michael,

BIOS Mod for Sony VGC RA940G (ASUS P5LP-VX) for Core 2 Duo Support

Hi there
I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RA940G Desktop computer with ASUS P5LP-VX Motherboard. I wanted to upgrade this computer and I'm searching for a Mod BIOS for this machine. It has an i945p chipset and the motherboard supports Core 2 Duo Processors till E6700. I got an E4700 processor for this computer and it perfectly fitted into socket. I tried to run computer. Lights are on, PSU fan spins but there is no display or any activity other than PSU fan. This Core 2 Duo E4700 processor is supported by extremely close motherboards such as P5LP-LE or P5L-MX. It was supported by the i945p chipset too. So there is almost no valid reason for the device to prevent using Core 2 Duo instead of a Pentium D 820 with SmithField other than BIOS.

Also 64 Bit Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 doesn't work because of the age of the bios date. Just 32 Bits are working while even my Pentium D is capable to run 64 Bit OS.

Specs :
PC : Sony VGC-RA940G
Motherboard : ASUS P5LP-VX
Current Processor : Intel Pentium D 820 2.8 GHz (I wanted to put Core 2 Duo E4700)
RAM : 6 GB DDR2
Graphics : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 Evga 2 GB
Storage : 1 TB Hard disk + 240 GB SSD + 120 GB SSD

Current BIOS is : Phoenix Award Technologies LTD 1001 (5/18/2005)

The BIOS for P5L-MX in official website of ASUS shows latest firmware from 12/28/2007
Is there anyone has a modded BIOS for P5LP-VX motherboards or Sony VGC-RA840G/940G computers?

The reason why I created this forum is because I don't know how to mod BIOS and I want to get lot of advanced features and extend CPU support for not stuck with Pentium D series forever and get Core 2 support.

Have a great day

Possibly damaged BIOS chip - Help please

I had a set of 64GB RAM (32GB x 2) and it wasn't running stable at XMP settings and caused my computer to crash. I repaired windows with sfc /scannow, rebooted the machine and went back into BIOS to loosen up the timings. I adjusted some other settings (I don't remember exactly which ones), and when I restarted the machine, it wouldn't POST. The keyboard lit up and changed colors, then it shut off and wouldn't try to boot again. When I pressed the power button again, it only lit up briefly, less than a second and shut off again.

I removed the CMOS battery to reset it to default, and I changed the RAM, I even tried it once without RAM and without the hard drive, but it still did the same thing.

I don't believe the motherboard was damaged since it didn't even turn back on after adjusting the BIOS, and believe the RAM somehow corrupted the BIOS chip. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if that's possible, but this is what it seems like to me. I have had a BIOS chip get corrupted before and though it was a long time ago, these symptoms seem similar.

I attached a pic of the BIOS chip:

Brand:  MXIC
Model #  MX25L25673GZ4I-08G

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Questions:

1.) What should I do to troubleshoot and identify the problem?

2.) If I need to either program or replace the chip, what route should I choose? I have a SOIC test clip and have programmed a chip in circuit before, but this is a different form facto and my clip will not worth with it. I believe it is an 8-HSON chip.

Old Phoenix 4.05 - Need guidance on modding

$

Hi -
My first post.  I am interested in learning the ropes in regards to modifying a legacy Bios.  I've tried Google searching a tutorial that will help me understand the basics of bios modding.

In my case, I have Phoenix Bios ver 4.05 built around 1995.  This bios supported a custom motherboard from a  piece of electronic test equipment. The motherboard supported an Intel 133 MHz Pentium and used a variant of the Intel 430 chip set.  As this motherboard was intended to drive a custom, integrated, PCI device, there were no expansion PCI slots available. This motherboard, however, does have an unpopulated spot for installing PCI connector.  With this connector installed and few installed jumpers, the bios does recognize a PCI card installed, however, the Bios setup has no way to assign IRQ to the card.  My goal is to patch the bios to enable this ability to assign IRQ to PCI devices.

All of the Phoenix mod tools I could find do not support my earlier version (Phoenix 4.05) bios.
I am hoping that someone would have some tips as to how and attack this problem.  Are there older Phoenix tools that would support my project?  I have some good experience reverse-engineering fiyrmware but I cannot find any tutorial/primer on how these early bioses were built and how they are organized.

I would appreciate any support you have to offer.
Thanks
Jim

Hi everyone! I have an Acer TravelMate P215-52G laptop. It seems have UEFI Class 3 BIOS (InsydeH2O) and I think because Intel from 10. series CPUs (mine has i5-10210U), it disabled CSM support and I couldn't find CSM option in boot menu. Is there a way add CSM module or mod the BIOS for enabling old BIOS support?
And my BIOS is modded in past from some admin in this forum (maybe that guy can remember me). It showed Legacy option but when I choose Legacy option in boot menu and after reboot, computer got fully bricked and only recovering is flashing original BIOS from USB stick.
Thanks from now for any helps and sorry for my bad English.

[REQUEST] Acer TravelMate P215-52G VGA OPROM / CSM Support

Hi! I posted this topic before but nobody helped near ~7 days. Did I opened this request at wrong topic?
Anyways, I have a 2020 Acer laptop. Intel removed CSM / Legacy boot support, so I cannot change this setting in InsydeH2O BIOS. It is grayed out. But in past, someone in here modded my BIOS (.bin) and disabled RSA signature to flash modded BIOS. After this, I could change UEFI to Legacy boot. But this time when I change to Legacy Boot, my laptop bricks. After saving changes, laptop screen is blank and I cannot enter the BIOS. Even RTC/CMOS battery solution did not work. ONLY SOLUTION is flashing original BIOS file(.fd) from USB (FAT32 formatted) via Fn + Esc.
Maybe there is a problem in modded BIOS file or Intel integrated CPU or nVidia GeForce MX230 video card does not have a VGA OPROM. Is there a way to add VGA OPROM support (or disable GOP driver) to BIOS file?

Lenovo P52s - Bios - Bricked

Good Evening -

I have a Lenovo P52s and the latest bios update bricked the laptop. Laptop worked perfectly fine prior. I've tried the Bios posted in the forum for the P52s and only get the power light blinking three times as a response when uploaded to chip. The old bios when it bricked was pretty much blank I've attached. Any bios also gives the error "File length is beyond the scope of the chip storage space, the part will be ignored!"
Model is 20LB-X013US

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[HELP!] Gigabyte mobo won't boot successfully with q6600

I have a GA-P35-DS3R, wich I want to downgrade to Core 2 q6600. (I used  IdeaFix's mod to upgrade to xeon x5450 )

So, I recently have some problems, like blue screen of deaths (BSOD) and my computer won't read my disk (A Kingston solid state drive). I have tried using the SSD to another PC and it worked just fine, but when I tried another drive to my PC it just said that there was a disk read error. I have tried swapping SATA cables, checking for loose connection and BIOS reset too.
Today, I tried downgrading to the official motherboard's BIOS and got an error (I tried both F9 and F8 bios versions with no change) I tried 2 USB drives too just to be sure that it is not a USB problem.

Is there anything else I can try?
Thank you
